Shoot To Kill Judicial Review
27 May 2010 --
A High Court judge ruled today that senior coroner John Leckey was right to
decide next of kin should be allowed to see edited versions of the probes into a
series of controversial Royal Ulster Constabulary shootings 28 years ago.
In response to the judgment delivered at the High Court this morning by Mr
Justice Gillen in respect of the Application for Judicial Review by the new
Chief Constable Matt Baggot, Fearghal Shiels of Madden & Finucane Solicitors,
representing the families of Gervaise McKerr, Eugene Toman and Sean Burns said
today:
"We welcome this morning's judgment by the High Court dismissing the Chief
Constable's application.
It is now over 15 years since this Inquest had to be abandoned by the Coroner
because of the then RUC Chief Constable Hugh Annesley refusal to disclose the
Stalker / Sampson's report into the circumstances surrounding these killings.
The new Chief Constable should now disclose the report without further delay or
prevarication in order that the full truth can finally be established about
these events."
